The company is engaged in cargo transportation, transport management, brokerage and storage services. The list of services includes: supply chain analysis, cargo consolidation, management of major carriers' programs and information reporting. with over 300 offices in the US, South America, Europe and Asia, CH Robinson has partnerships with 66,000 transport companies, including road carriers railway and sea transport companies and air carriers, C. H. Robinson is also involved in the purchase, sale and marketing of fresh food products through a network of independent manufacturers and suppliers.

The company was founded in 1905 and was the purchasing department for the Nash Finch grocery company. In the 1950s, the company began operating in the trucking business market, and in 1979 C. H. Robinson focused on using new technologies and started using IBM mainframes. In 1997, the company became public and began trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol CHRW.
